al-ʿAnkabūt 29:47

The Qurʾān · Sūra 29: al-ʿAnkabūt · verse 47

This commentary was written by Claude (Anthropic); it carries no religious authority and should be checked against the classical sources.

29/47

"Thus have We sent down the Book to you as well. Among those to whom We gave the Book there are those who believe in it; and among these too there are those who believe in it."

The word order of the verse must be recorded: both groups are named with the same verbyuʾminūna bih and man yuʾminu bih.

And the particle min occurs explicitly with the second group: wa min hāʾulāʾi man yuʾminu bih — "and among these too there are those who believe."

I record this as an observation: the verse issues no blanket ruling about either of the two communities. The note on illa'lladhīna ẓalamū minhum at al-ʿAnkabūt 29/46 came from the same place. The sūra draws its distinction not between groups but between attitudes — and this is the line the method (Method) preserves.

يَجْحَدُ — root ج-ح-د: to deny while knowing. The root was treated at al-Aḥqāf 46/26, and there the connection the lexicographers record with "ground being barren" (arḍun jaḥād) was given. I do not repeat it here.
