إِنَّ رَبَّكَ هُوَ أَعْلَمُ مَن يَضِلُّ عَن سَبِيلِهِۦ وَهُوَ أَعْلَمُ بِٱلْمُهْتَدِينَ · فَكُلُوا۟ مِمَّا ذُكِرَ ٱسْمُ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ إِن كُنتُم بِـَٔايَٰتِهِۦ مُؤْمِنِينَ
"Your Lord knows best who strays from His way, and He knows best those who are guided. So eat of that over which the name of God has been pronounced — if you are believers in His signs."
The link between the two verses is worth recording, and I give this as my own reading: in verse 116 it was said that following the majority is rejected. In 117 it is stated whose the judgement is, and in 118 a concrete application comes.
That is, the sūra comes down from an abstract argument about measure (majority, or knowledge?) to a decision at the table.
And the command fa-kulū is the door of the last block of the sūra: the ground will be given in 119-121, the invented prohibitions will be taken up in 136-150, and the real list will be read out in 151-153.
إِن كُنتُم بِـَٔايَٰتِهِۦ مُؤْمِنِينَ — and the condition must be recorded: eating is bound to it as a sign of faith. I record this as an observation: the sūra relates the lifting of a self-imposed prohibition to faith.
