يا أيها الذين آمنوا خذوا حذركم فانفروا ثبات أو انفروا جميعا · وإن منكم لمن ليبطئن … فليقاتل في سبيل الله الذين يشرون الحياة الدنيا بالآخرة
Yā ayyuha'lladhīna āmanū khudhū ḥidhrakum fa'nfirū thubātin awi'nfirū jamīʿā · Wa inna minkum la-man la-yubaṭṭiʾann … Fa'l-yuqātil fī sabīli'llāhi'lladhīna yashrūna'l-ḥayāta'l-dunyā bi'l-ākhira
"O you who believe! Take your precautions; go out in companies or go out all together. Among you there is one who holds back… Let those who sell the life of this world for the hereafter fight in the way of God."
And the form of the command must be recorded: khudhū ḥidhrakum — "take your precautions". The verb gives precaution as something to be taken up.
The word will occur once more, in this block and in the hundred and second verse (the prayer of fear). Both occurrences concern a state of war.
And how the verse describes this group must be recorded: no name is given, a verb is given. La-man la-yubaṭṭiʾann — "one who holds back". The description is tied not to a person but to a behaviour.
This accords with the method's rule about attributes and is the line maintained throughout this commentary.
And which direction it is used in here is known from the sentence's particle bi-: in Arabic the price comes with bi-; here the price is al-ākhira. What is given, that is, is this world, and what is taken is the hereafter.
The word occurred at the forty-fourth verse as well: yashtarūna'l-ḍalālata — "they buy error". The same root, in two opposite directions. This is a repetition that can be verified within the sūra.
