7/46-49 — The people of al-Aʿrāf
وَبَيْنَهُمَا حِجَابٌ وَعَلَى ٱلْأَعْرَافِ رِجَالٌ يَعْرِفُونَ كُلًّۢا بِسِيمَىٰهُمْ وَنَادَوْا۟ أَصْحَٰبَ ٱلْجَنَّةِ أَن سَلَٰمٌ عَلَيْكُمْ لَمْ يَدْخُلُوهَا وَهُمْ يَطْمَعُونَ · وَإِذَا صُرِفَتْ أَبْصَٰرُهُمْ تِلْقَآءَ أَصْحَٰبِ ٱلنَّارِ قَالُوا۟ رَبَّنَا لَا تَجْعَلْنَا مَعَ ٱلْقَوْمِ ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
Wa baynahumā ḥijāb, wa ʿala'l-aʿrāfi rijālun yaʿrifūna kullan bi-sīmāhum, wa nādaw aṣḥāba'l-jannati an salāmun ʿalaykum, lam yadkhulūhā wa hum yaṭmaʿūn · Wa idhā ṣurifat abṣāruhum tilqāʾa aṣḥābi'n-nāri qālū rabbanā lā tajʿalnā maʿa'l-qawmi'ẓ-ẓālimīn
"Between the two there is a veil. And upon al-Aʿrāf are men who recognise each by his mark. They call out to the people of the Garden: 'Peace be upon you.' They have not entered it, but they hope to. · And when their eyes are turned towards the people of the Fire they say: 'Our Lord! Do not place us with the wrongdoing people.'"
